Team approach to managing your diabetes
Diabetes is a complex and sometimes overwhelming disease. Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been diabetic for years, the Diabetes Education Program at Alpena Regional Medical Center is here for you. Our caring team of a Registered Dietitian and a Registered Nurse will help you learn the skills needed to control your diabetes and prevent long-term complications.
Alpena Regional Medical Center’s Diabetes Education Program is a leader in providing comprehensive diabetes self management training to people with diabetes and their families in Northern Michigan. The education provided is in compliance with the American Diabetes Association Standards. The Diabetes Center is recognized by the American Diabetes Association and certified by the Michigan Department of Community Health. Our program strives to make you the center of the diabetes care team and look forward to helping you manage your diabetes.
Education is offered as individual sessions or group classes. A referral is required from your physician for these educational opportunities. Most insurance will pay for 1 hour of individual education and 9 hours of group classes the first year and then 2 hours per year after that. (Please check with your insurance company for exact coverage).
We also offer a free support group for those individuals and loved ones affected by diabetes. No registration is required. Join us at any time. Call for more information.

Take control of your diabetes through education and lifestyle changes. You can reduce your risk of complications and improve your chances of leading a long and healthy life with the help of our Diabetes Educator and Nutritionists who will provide the knowledge and skills you need to live well.
Education is provided in compliance with the American Diabetes Association Standards. The Diabetes Center is recognized by the American Diabetes Association and certified by Michigan Department of Community Health which allows us to bill most insurance companies for education costs.
