MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena Receives High Marks From Health Rating Agencies

MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena is a 139-bed critical access hospital that offers general medical and surgical care for inpatients and outpatients in addition to a 24-hour emergency room. The facility provides a variety of services including cancer care, diagnostic imaging (x-ray and CT scanning), orthopedics, pain management, rehabilitation services, surgery, women’s health, and wound & hyperbaric medicine.

The hospital has recently undergone a major expansion. The three-story patient tower includes 60 new private rooms, eight labor and delivery rooms, 44 medical/surgical/telemetry rooms, as well as a large amount of flex space. The facility is also home to the Alpena Regional Surgery Institute, which offers a range of outpatient procedures and surgeries.

Mymichigan Medical Center Alpena has received a number of high marks from health rating agencies. In fact, it was just awarded the highest possible score on two of Healthgrades’ most important measures. These include a measure of how often patients recommend the hospital to their friends and family, as well as one that looks at how quickly the hospital responds to problems that arise in patients’ stay.

This hospital is one of the only in the state to receive the top rating on both of these metrics, which makes it a standout among its peers. The Healthgrades awards are based on objective data and analyze hospitals’ performance in several areas including patient safety, quality of care, and efficiency. The rankings are determined by data collected from a variety of sources, including national organizations and government databases.

In addition to receiving the highest possible score from Healthgrades, this hospital has also been named a top-rated hospital in three of the five categories by the Leapfrog Group. The hospital’s safety grade was upgraded from a C this year, which is speculated to be due to the facility’s issues with the survey submission process.

The hospital’s president, Michael Erickson, told the press that he is very pleased with the hospital’s performance this year and is looking forward to an even better rating next year. He is announcing the appointment of Hunter Nostrant to run the Alpena hospital starting September 1. Nostrant is currently the president and CEO of Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry.

He studied at Grand Valley State University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies. He has always had a strong interest in office procedures and women’s health. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Michigan Association of Physician Assistants. He has been in practice since 2021 and specializes in Family Medicine. He is accepting new patients in the Alpena location. He can be reached at 810.258.3388 or by email. He sees patients Tuesdays and Thursdays.
